he protection of the environment is essential to the well-being of Canada.” This is the opening statement of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). Such a truthful assertion is a constant reminder about the efforts and care needed to contribute to a more liveable and pollution-free atmosphere.

CASSEN Testing Laboratories provides analytical services in support of ambient air quality assessment through active and passive sampling with detection in the sub-ppb to ppb range. Examples of frequently tested parameters are:

Aromatic Hydrocarbons (BTEX)
Chlorinated Compounds
Aldehydes
Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs)
Pesticides and Polychlorinated Biphenyls
Vinyl Chloride
1,3-Butadiene
Sulphur compounds and Mercaptans
Coal Tar compounds

Vapour Intrusion and Soil Gas Analysis

CASSEN supplies passive diffusion samplers for the trace level detection of volatile organic compounds in soil gas, headspace above groundwater and inside boreholes. These samplers are easy to use and can be deployed over a period of time. They are convenient to be placed in a soil gas extraction probe or flux chamber for a diverse applications such as vapour intrusion into buildings, soil gas from contaminated site and characterization of groundwater. In the latter case, this technique eliminates the need to purge a well before collecting a sample and to dispose of contaminated water.

Their use allows an increase in the frequency of monitoring because of the associated saving in time and cost. A large number of VOCs can be monitored at the same time at the parts per billion level. Please contact CASSEN for this service.
